Happy Tuesday! I meant to blog yesterday, a kick start to the week and getting it started off on a good note….but work got in the way. Don’t you just hate when that happens? Details, I tell ya!
Last weekend, I took off to Los Angeles to be support for my friend that rode with Ride2Recovery from Ventura to West Los Angeles. If you don’t know about the group, they are incredible! They work with veterans suffering from PTSD, that were hurt in the line of duty and need a helping hand reintegrating into every day life. The work they do and support they provide is such a gift. We took off on Friday and headed south. To my credit, I think I was quite the co-pilot with reminders to break and stories that made no sense. There could have been some air drumming going on as well, because I’m talented like that!
Our first stop in So Cal after checking into the hotel was In and Out Burger, refueling after sitting in a car was a must!
Saturday morning, bright and early the cyclists took off and I enjoyed the leisurely drive behind them. I was in the caravan of support cars, the entire group from riders to support were escorted by motorcycles and eventually police officers as we made our way into West Los Angeles.
Once the ride concluded, we went into tourist mode! It was so much fun to hang out, have a few treats and relax. If you’ve been to Los Angeles, where have you gone? We strolled along the Hollywood Stars, checked out the Hollywood sign and explored.
A few months ago, I randomly came across a restaurant on Instagram called EggSlut I kid you not. If you want to check it out, it’s in Grand Central Market, located in downtown L.A. and worth the line. We got there at 8:15, they opened at 8 am and the line wrapped around their counter. Evidently, this was the short line, it gets obnoxious if you’re there too late. I can understand why!
Their photos were straight up food porn and I knew that one day I was going to have to make my way there. That day came and it was everything I had hoped for and more. That’s a tall order to fill, but they really delivered. The menu isn’t extensive, the stay with what they know – egg sandwiches served on soft brioche buns, a burger that sounded ahhhmazing and coddled eggs. They have a couple of sandwich options and we had the top three from the menu. Mine was the Fairfax, it was perfection!!!
The weekend was topped off with seeing my cousin and his wife, which really was the icing on the cake. If you know me, you know family and spending time with them trumps everything. Couple that, with not having seen my cousin in far too long (32 years is what we came up with) my weekend couldn’t have been better! We gave back to an incredible cause, relaxed, spent time with family and ate so many goodies!
On the way home, my email chimed and guess what was in my inbox? That’s right……Coach Michelle sent me my training plan. I was in a serious down cycle that allowed me to take a break from intense training, but we’re going to ramp it back up. A bit more work on building my base and then it’s race training! I’m really excited to start focusing and have structure again in the next few months. For now, I’m running for time and not specific mileage a few days a week, sprinkled in with my cross training and I’ve been using a heart rate monitor. That has been interesting during spin class and on easy runs. Do you have one that you use? What do you like about heart rate training?
Are you racing this fall? Taking a season off? What are your holiday plans?
